Oppenheim, E. Phillips (1866-1946) Novelist, Short Story Writer and Playwright. A highly prolific writer, between 1887 and 1940 he authored over 150 books including 109 novels, doing 5,000 words a day, dictating simultaneously into two Dictaphones. Much of his work was suspense and international intrigue although he also wrote occasional romance novels, comedies and parables. In these books his characters often indulged in the good life of fine foods and luxury and despite his own love of Monte Carlo and fine wines, he was also a workaholic. One of Oppenheim's most popular characters was General Besserley, the protagonist in General Besserley's Puzzle Box and General Besserley's New Puzzle Box. Over 40 of his works were made into movies!
