(1922-2000) Ace. Augarten joined the Army Resreve and was Commissioned 2nd Lt. and earned his pilot's wings on March 20, 1943. He was transferred to the 371st Fighter Group of the 406th Fighter Squadron. On June 8, 1944 he seriously damaged a Focke-Wulf Fw-190 and then two days later was shot down by flack and then fought in ground combat until he was able to return to his outfit in August. On October 3, 1944 he shot down two Me-109s. He ended the war with the rank of Captain. While attending Harvard he was approached by Israeli recruiters to fight in the Israeli Air Force which he did in 1948-49. He got in 116 hours of combat time, mostly against the British and downed 5 British Aircraft and one Arab plance. This made him an ace and found that he was fighting his former allies. He returned to Harvard and graduated. Won a Bronze Star Medal and 15 Air Medals, 2 Verified Kills in WWII and 5 in the Israeli War.
