(1883-1932) Army General. Entered the Army as an enlisted man in 1891 and served as an officer in the Spanish-American War. During WW I he successively commanded a battalion, regiment, brigade and then the First Infantry Division in France seeing action in all the battles between Cantigny and the Meuse-Argonne. Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, he was promoted to Brig. General of the National Army in 1918.
