(1925¿2002) WWII Army MOH Recipient. Awarded the MOH for his actions near Assenois, Belgium, 26 December 1944. Pvt. Hendrix was with the leading force engaged in the final thrust to break through to the besieged garrison at Bastogne when he and his fellow soldiers came under fierce enemy artillery and small arms fire. Leaving the safety of his tank, he advanced against two 88mm. guns, and, by the ferocity of his rifle fire, caused both gun crews to surrender. Later in the battle he again left his tank to aid two wounded soldiers who were helpless and exposed to intense machine-gun fire. Silencing two of the machineguns, he held off the enemy with his own fire until the wounded men could be evacuated. Hendrix again risked his life to come to the aid of still another soldier who was trapped in a burning half-track. Braving enemy sniper fire and exploding mines and ammunition in the vehicle, he rescued the wounded man and extinguished his flaming clothing, saving his life. Hendrix's courage and heroism in battle was directly responsible for saving the lives of several of his fellow soldiers. Sig
