(1937- ) Famed NASCAR Auto Racer. Allison began racing while still in high school and after graduating moved with his brother Donnie to Alabama where he began winning races. In 1965 he moved to the Grand National circuit and eventually took part in 718 races, winning 84 times. This ties him with Darrell Waldrip for third highest wins in racing history. There is controversy surrounding two more races that it is argued he should have won. In 1988 while racing at Pocono Raceway, Allison crashed and was so seriously injured that he had to give up driving. He later became a car owner. His victories include 3 Daytona 500s (1978, 1982 and 1988) and the 1983 Winston Cup. In 1993, the same year his son Davey died, he was elected to the Motor Sports Hall of Fame.
