(1909-2000) Actor, best remembered for his good looks and suave manner. Born to the suave actor and his first wife, his father took little interest in him and divorced his mother at age nine. Fairbanks mother was the daughter of a rich Southern Cotton Planter and he lived with them until he made his film debut at 13! Despite his father¿s fame he got not help and Doug Sr. never took any interest in his career. He began doing Silents, writing and stage work. He was handsome, brilliant, athletic and suave and finally to a real interest in his career after he married Joan Crawford in 1929. His movies included The Jazz Age, Stella Dallas, The Dawn Patrol, The Life of Jimmy Dolan, Catherine the Great, The Prisoner of Zenda, Gunga Din,Green Hell, The Corcican Brothers, Sinbad the Sailor, Ghost Story, etc. He was married twice after Crawford, his second marriage (to A & P Heiress Mary Lee Eppling) lasted almost 40 years and his third marriage from 1990 until his death until his death. His suave and handsome persona also allowed him numerous lovers included Pamela Churchill (later Harriman), Mandy Rice-Davies of the Perfumo Scandal etc. A well known Anglophile, close to the Royal Family, Fairbanks worked with the British Navy in WW II and was awarded numerous medals including a being knighted for furthering Anglo-American amity. He also was close to FDR and undertook a secret pre-War mission to South and Central America to access Nazi influence in the area. He retired from the Navy as a Captain. Besides acting he was a painter and sculptor and undertook numerous businesses. He lived much of the end of his life in London and wrote several autobiographies. Autographed CARD
